Forgiveness was written one summer in anticipation of Yom Kippur - the holy day of atonement. It expresses the desire for G-d to forgive us even though we know we've messed up. It also expresses the ability to forgive another person when they've deeply hurt you. We know that forgiving one another is a pre-requisite to G-d forgiving us.
